The Alamodome - San Antonio, Texas (DATE SHIFTED ONE DAY FORWARD TO SATURDAY MORNING!) "Home of the largest & finest AFJROTC-only drill competition in the WORLD!"
oh my goodness..... ![]()
on the "AIR FORCE NATIONALS" EVENT The Western Division of the Air Force National JROTC Drill Championships remains the annual home to many of the finest AFJROTC programs from across the Western United States. Most commonly referred to as the "Air Force Nationals", The AFNJDC maintains the widest geographic spread of Air Force JROTC schools of any Air Force only competition, and still hosts many of the finest AFJROTC drill programs in the country. The event continues to provide a valuable experience for all AFJROTC cadets looking to be a part of a one-of-a-kind, Air Force-only, JROTC drill competition. This event is sponsored by the U.S. Air Force JROTC HQ and the Air Force Association. 2009 began a big change in the event as the competition moved to picturesque San Antonio, Texas. Thanks to the work of so many, the gorgeous Alamodome will now be the home of the Western Championships. This massive facility is state-of-the-art and will provide an amazing home for the Air Force drillers of the Western United States. The Alamodome is located a short stroll from many downtown hotels, as well as a block of more budget conscious hotel rooms roughly 15 minutes from the venue. The Alamodome is just minutes from River Walk, a shopping mall, boutiques, restaurants, night spots, and the Alamo.
The Alamodome features the very latest in dome architecture and engineering technology, with column-free spans for unobstructed viewing and a curtain wall system for configuration flexibility. Configured for a military drill competition, the venue will maintain comfortable, fixed seating for roughly 8,000 people in the lower deck area. This site will be one of the most impressive facilities many attending cadets will ever have the privilege to drill within! Ample parking, clean, unobstructed sight lines, concrete floors and hundreds of other details regarding the competition are maintained within the official Air Force Nationals Invitation that all interested schools are encouraged to study to gain an overall knowledge of the competition.
After the amazing success of this event in the past, Sports Network International is extremely pleased, proud and excited to continue to host this national invitational Air Force drill competition designed and run exclusively for Air Force JROTC units. With the support of the Air Force JROTC Headquarters and the ability for top finishing schools to generate thousands of dollars and land a guaranteed competition space in the all-service National High School Drill Team Championships in Daytona Beach, Florida, this competition looks to be something very special. The Air Force Nationals are designed to promote the positive aspects and benefits of Junior ROTC to citizens throughout the United States. This showcase event will also display to the general public the discipline, determination, and dedication produced through Junior ROTC and publicizes the benefits of joining such an outstanding organization. Sports Network International (SNI) remains proud of our association with this fantastic event. It is our hope and goal every year to provide all JROTC cadets with an event they can be proud of. SNI provides drill and ceremony competitions, Raider competition and related items for many young men and women throughout the world of Junior ROTC every year. We are honored to be a part of this exceptional drill event and look forward to working hard to bring you the finest Air Force-only drill competition ever held. The team-oriented individuals that gravitate towards drill & ceremony are the backbone of most thriving JROTC units. We at Sports Network consider it privilege to work in this arena each and every year.
Look for additional information regarding the Air Force Nationals within the DrillNATION Magazine (formerly IDR Magaznine). This publication is mailed to all JROTC schools in mid-September and as always has been well received. Informative articles and stories regarding Junior ROTC, as well as results and general information regarding the drill events produced by SNI are annually featured, including a feature page regarding the "Air Force Nationals" competition. This magazine, along with the amazingly content-rich DrillNATION.net on-line information, provides a wealth of information to the JROTC community both in and out of the drill world. Please take a look through this site. Here at Sports Network International, we look forward to the production of the upcoming competition. Here's wishing all Air Force JROTC programs a safe and successful school year. Remember, always do your best! Justin Gates AFNJDC Competition Director
