EVENT SOP UPDATES

1) POSTED: SEPTEMBER 24TH, 2008
SOP, Invite, Reg Form, and Scoresheets Now Posted!

The basic materials needed to enter and compete in the 2009 AF Nationals have been posted. Floor Diagrams and other items will follow in a timely fashion.

2) POSTED: OCTOBER 17TH, 2008 - MAJOR CHANGE!
Armed Regulation Drill Sequence and Overall Armed Regulation Rules Changed!

As per directive from the AF Rule Committee under the direction of the AFJROTC HQ, the AF Nationals will implement usage of the Army regulations (FM 3-21.5) for the entire armed regulation sequence. This includes marching, rifle movements, everything! This is being done because AFMAN 36-2203 defers to the Army manual when it comes to drill with rifles. Because of this, the Armed Regulation sequence has been replaced with a sequence written in Army vernacular. All teams must execute the sequence as written using Army regulations! Fortunately, the differences are subtle and easily learned.

3) POSTED: OCTOBER 27TH, 2008
Lighter Rifles at AF Nationals Allowed

After careful review by AFJROTC-HQ, it has been decided that lighter weight facsimile rifles WILL BE allowed use in all facets of the event. This allowance does come with a caveat. Within Armed Exhibition Drill, teams will maintain a competitive advantage using the lighter rifles. Therefore, judges will take the use of lighter rifles into consideration in their scoring within the "Degree of Difficulty" phase of the scoresheet.

4) POSTED: JANUARY 06TH, 2009
Obvious typo switch on Unarmed Regulation Sequence

Unarmed Division Flight Regulation Drill Sequence (REV2) had commands 43 and 44 in reverse order. Change was made to have "Close, March" listed first, followed by "Extend, March." Latest Sequence is listed as REV3 in the top

5) POSTED: JANUARY 29TH, 2009
Clarification on AFJROTC HQ decision to use Army Regs for all Armed Regulation Drill

As discussed under #2 above, the AF Nationals will follow the directive from AFJROTC HQ regarding the use of Army regulations (FM 3-21.5) for all armed regulation drill. Schools are reminded this means to follow ALL Army regs unless contraindicated within the event SOP. The ONLY exception to this regulation is that units are still required to call their cadets by the correct Air Force vernacular (Element / Flight) as opposed to the Army vernacular (Squad / Platoon). Judges will be expecting to hear the commands using these preparatory terms. The scoresheets will be modified to reflect this clarification.

6) POSTED: FEBRUARY 13TH, 2009
Forward March commands removed from Column Half Right/Left on Basic Sequences

The Command "Forward, March" is not required as a verbal command when exiting a column 1/2 right/left movement and was removed from the sequence.

7) POSTED: FEBRUARY 13TH, 2009
Entry-Exit Dimensions placed on Drill Floor Diagrams

The width of the entry-exit point has been written into the floor diagram. Basically, all large formation events are 25' across, color guard is 15' and inspection enters through a standard 36" doorway.

8) POSTED: MARCH 16TH, 2009
Uniform Variance Approved

Currently, the AF Nationals SOP has been written to allow private schools to wear trousers with a stripe, and/or covers with a silver bar. This same flexibility was not extended to non-private schools. This is an unfair advantage and places affected schools at an undue disadvantage. Schools are currently allowed to chrome rifles, wear corfram shoes, wear service caps, and many other similar issues. Therefore, public schools will not be penalized for use of either striped trousers or the use of the silver stripe on the pants.

9) POSTED: MARCH 18TH, 2009
Color Guard Sequence Note

We have now received a phone call from a 2nd school asking of there is supposed to be a Forward, March command inserted after not only the reverse marches, but after the wheel movements as well. This is a big YES! After every wheel movement or colors reverse, the CG unit will be put in motion with a Forward, March command.

Thank you, good luck and safe travel to all attendees!
