This listing is intended to provide all NYFC Cheer attendees with much general information about a wide variety of topics regarding your stay in Daytona Beach, Florida. We strongly suggest that you take advantage of the World Wide Web to do some research before you arrive and you can start that research right here. This allows you to print listings that are of specific interest to you.
Feel free to visit our local newspaper, the Daytona Beach News Journal for the latest headlines, events, activities, and weather. They also have a beach-cam which is great to see the tides and weather.
The primary focus of beachside entertainment and food has become the Ocean Walk Village. Anyone coming to Daytona Beach should go to their website to see all of the amazing items that are a part of this multi-million dollar beachside renovation. It is located just North of the Ocean Center directly on the beach.
The city is historically known as having a world-famous beach where the hard packed sand allows motorized vehicles to drive on the beach on the bulk of the beach. Driving on the beach is an experience you will never forget! Additionally, the city maintains the well-known Daytona 500 stock car race. This event involves over 200,000 attendees and dwarfs the much smaller NFL Super Bowl!
The entire resort area of Daytona Beach, Florida really consists of not only the city of Daytona Beach, but also Ormond Beach (to the north) and Daytona Beach Shores (to the south). Together these cities make up the 23 miles of beach that is collectively known by non-Central Floridians as "Daytona Beach". For the NYFC event, we utilize hotels all the way up and down the entire 23 mile beach front. Every hotel used for the NYFC is located on the beach and walking out the back of every hotel in every package level will have you walking on our beautiful sandy Atlantic Ocean beaches! Complete geographic info can best be found here.
The center of activity along Daytona Beach is the Ocean Center Convention Center and the Hilton Oceanwalk Resort Hotel. These facilities are directly across the street from each other at roughly the 100 North address area. In days past, there was a bustling boardwalk that has been scaled back in recent years and now the Oceanwalk Shoppes have been greatly expanded and provide a wonderful beach experience for all of the NYFC families. During low tide, you can drive your car on the hard packed sands of Daytona in all but a few miles of beach directly around the Hilton hotel - it is a lot of fun!
The beachside maintains three huge overspan bridges and two very small drawbridges to get from the "beachside" to the "mainland". It is important to note that while the hotels are all located on the beachside, all of the football fields are on the mainland side of town. As many people jokingly state, "they don't build football fields on million dollar an acre beachside land". Getting to these bridges is very simple. Maps, event game schedules and written directions take you right to the fields in use for your games at the NYFC.
The climate of Central Florida is on the fringe of humid subtropical. There is a defined rainy season from June through September, which are the months most at risk of landfalling tropical cyclones. Thunderstorms occur primarily in the late Summer months. Between October and May (during the event), fronts regularly sweep through the state which keeps conditions dry, particularly over the peninsula. Complete climate details are best found here.
