The first weekend in May, local event manager Sports Network International will host the Volusia County Military Salute Weekend. This event will feature performances designed to recognize and give thanks to the men and women who serve in the United States Armed Forces.
World famous military performance units including the U.S. Army Old Guard Drill Team and the King's Guard Drill Team from Honolulu, Hawaii are scheduled to attend. These preeminent units will be featured along with the largest military drill competition in the world, the three-day National High School Drill Team Championships. This military drill & ceremony event will feature over 150 JROTC units and 6,000 cadets, instructors and parents from around the world competing in over 30 events that maintain high intensity, crowd-pleasing marching and rifle maneuvers.
ABOUT THE NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL DRILL TEAM CHAMPIONSHIPS
The NHSDTC remains the largest and most well-recognized collection of drill & ceremony talent ever assembled in a single weekend. The four primary branches of the military will be sending their finest schools to compete in this unparalleled weekend of military drill excellence. Cadets will compete within several military disciplines while being evaluated by over 40 of the finest all-service judges from across the United States. The 2007 event will be a special affair as this will be the 25th anniversary of this illustious competition. Event VIPs and General Officers will be on-hand to witness competitions in Inspection, Regulation Drill, Color Guard, and the crowd-pleasing Exhibition drill.
The NHSDTC event begins on Friday for the Challenge Level competition and continues throughout the day and evening, ending with a spirited Awards Ceremony. On Saturday and Sunday, the event shifts to the Masters Level competition, again culminating in an amazing awards ceremonmy Sunday evening.. Over 100,000 cadets, instructors and parents have attended the NHSDTC competition over the years. The event is featured within the official publication of the event, IDR Magazine. Attendees for years have marveled at the amazing peformances on display in every part of the bulding.
ABOUT THE U.S. ARMY DRILL TEAM
The U.S. Army Drill Team, one of the 3rd U.S. Infantry's renowned specialty units, has earned international acclaim through its breathtaking routines with bayonet-tipped 1903 Springfield rifles. Coming from their home in Ft. Myer, Virginia, the Army Drill Team maintains a balance of precision and showmanship that is difficult to match within the world of military drill.
Organized to support The Old Guard's ceremonial commitments, the Drill Team has thrilled millions of youngsters and proud Americans for more than 25 years with their daring and complex performances. When not performing for the President or visiting dignitaries and heads of state, the Drill Team travels extensively supporting Army recruitment, acting as "good-will ambassadors" for the Army and participating in major military and civic functions.
Over the past decades, several cadets who have competed at the NHSDTC have gone on to be members of this elite ceremonial drill & ceremony unit. In 2007, the Army Drill Team is scheduled to perform both prior to the NHSDTC Challenge Level awards ceremony on Friday evening, and during the NHSDTC Masters Level afternoon competition break. ABOUT THE U.S. AIR FORCE HONOR GUARD DRILL TEAM
The U.S. Air Force Honor Guard Drill Teampromotes the Air Force mission by showcasing drill performances at public and military venues to recruit, retain, and inspire Airmen. We support Air Force Recruiting Service as the official Ambassadors in Blue.
Drill Team members are selected from current USAF Honor Guard personnel. The Drill Team members represent the best of each of the individual ceremonial flights and are all members who have risen to the challenge and developed the discipline required to be a member of this elite performance unit. The Drill Team is open to both men and women, and although there are no women currently on the team, several women have earned positions

In 2007, the Air Force Honor Guard Drill Team is scheduled to perform at the NHSDTC Masters Level noon competition break on Sunday afternoon. ABOUT THE KING'S GUARD DRILL TEAM
The Royal King's Guard Drill Team from Honolulu, Hawaii performs nightly at the King's Villiage in Waikiki Beach. While they maintain a rock-star status within the military drill community, their notariety among non-drill afficionados is largely limited by their isolation in the middle of the Pacific Ocean! Their modest drill surroundings in Hawaii belie their amazing skill and only add to the legend their drillers put forth every night.
Modest and self-effacing, this group of consumate professionals have been to the NHSDTC event on numerous previous occasions over the past decade. Their performances at the NHSDTC always create an international stir as the media publicity and internet word-of-mouth are epic. Every performance they undertake is different, yet the common thread is that spectators are always mesmerized and left standing and applauding for more!
At the 2007 event, the King's Guard will hold the honor as the first drill team to ever perform during the elegant and dramatic Masters Level Awards Ceremony at the NHSDTC Sunday evening. New attendees and long-time attendees alike will be amazed at the lights, sound and pagentry that will encompass this amazing display of military drill excellence.
