2010
The ISIS World Drill Championships are beginning to mature with the competition field expanding to include many more of the finest drillers in the nation. Word has begun to spread farther and faster with cadets coming from greater distances to be a part of the excitement. This year, along with nearly two dozen amazing and diverse competitors, Andres Ryan competed as an active-duty soldier stationed at Ft. Myer with The Old Guard as a part of the Army Drill Team and narrowly missed capturing the solo championship. This type of inclusion is expected to spread as the event makes inroads within each service drill team.

A larger competition brought forth a pool play format which proved to be tremendously exciting. However, the overall two-day "play-in" format proved to be too all-encompassing as most competitors wished to return to the original "one & done" competition format of years past the following year. The event moved into the NHSDTC Exhibit Hall in 2009 and was well received as superior space & nearby practice/warm-up considerations, along with better drill lighting gave this competition site two thumbs up from the competitors! The biggest moment had to be the "stock heard 'round the world" shattering by Mr. Keith Warren, ISIS competitor and Fern Creek HS alumnus. His dramatic knee cracking stock split report-out was a great moment for the event.

The ISIS World Drill Championships again came to life with even more energy and more advanced notice. Roughly 1,000 cadets lined every possible area on the main Arena drill floor to see the ISIS drillers. Along with dozens of amazing solo & dual drillers, a crowd favorite had to be AFJROTC Instructor MSgt. Ken Madden, drilling in a WWII replica uniform! While the other competitors were roughly half his age, he didn't ket that phase him in the slightest. His routine didn't win that day, but it sure got the loudest applause from the assembled cadets competing with John Jay High School.

The inaugural year for ISIS and the arena was buzzing! Few people knew what was going on when the post-high school kids hit the floor but they sure knew soon enough! About 500-600 people were soon gathered around watching and cheering for their favorite drillers. Overall, the event was spectaular and created quite a buzz in the drill community.
