General Info on the Western Championships: Sports Network International looks very forward to working with U.S. Army Cadet Command, 12th Brigade, Texas Army National Guard, and the numerous other groups that work hard to make the event a success every year. The "Army Nationals" as the overall Eastern & Western event combined has affectionately become known, has been designed to provide a first-class platform for all Army JROTC drill cadets to showcase their months of work.
2009 begans a big change in the event as the competition moved to picturesque San Antonio, Texas. Thanks to the work of so many, the gorgeous Alamodome is now the home of the Western Championships. This massive facility is state-of-the-art and will provide an amazing home for the Army drillers of the Western United States. The Alamodome is located a short stroll from many downtown hotels, as wll as a block of more budget conscious hotel rooms roughly 15 minutes from the venue. The Alamodome is just minutes from River Walk, a shopping mall, boutiques, restaurants, night spots, and the Alamo. The Alamodome features the very latest in dome architecture and engineering technology, with column-free spans for unobstructed viewing and a curtain wall system for configuration flexibility. Configured for a military drill competition, the venue will maintain comfortable, fixed seating for roughly 8,000 people in the lower deck area. This site will be one of the most impressive facilities many attending cadets will ever have the priviledge to drill within! Ample parking, clean, unobstructed sight lines, concrete floors and hundreds of other details regarding the competition are maintained within the official Army Nationals Invitation that all interested schools are encouraged to study to gain an overall knowledge of the competition (NOTE: this document is posted on-line every year in mid-September for the upcoming competition the following calendar year. Other documents are left on-line to allow schools to review previous materials.)
Hundreds of other details regarding the competition are maintained within the official Army Invitation that all interested schools are encouraged to study to gain an overall detailed knowledge of the competition. This invitation is posted to the website each year beginning in September. Knowing that virtually all schools will need hotel accomodations, over a half a dozen hotels all very near the competition site have been contracted and are ready to provide very reasonable billets for competitors and spectators alike. Simply click on the "BILLETING INFORMATION" link and identify yourselves as the code name specified by each hotel. (NOTE: Schools are encouraged NOT to make hotel reservations until their entry into the event has been received and accepted).
The Army Nationals are designed to promote the positive aspects and benefits of Junior ROTC to citizens throughout the United States. This showcase event will also display to the general public the discipline, determination, and dedication produced through Junior ROTC and publicizes the benefits of joining such an outstanding organization. It remains an honor each year to attend and represent your school, state and service at this prestigious drill championship event. Sports Network International (SNI) remains proud of our association with this fantastic event. It is our hope and goal every year to provide all JROTC cadets with an event they can be proud of. SNI provides drill and ceremony competitions, a National Raider competition and related items for many young men and women throughout the world of Junior ROTC every year featured within the on-line community DrillNATION.net. We are honored to be a part of this exceptional drill event and look forward to working hard to bring you the finest Army-only drill competition ever held. The team-oriented individuals that gravitate towards drill & ceremony are the backbone of most thriving JROTC units. We at Sports Network consider it privilege to work in this arena each and every year.
Look for additional information regarding the Army Nationals within the DrillNATION Magazine (formerly IDR Magaznine). This publication is mailed to all JROTC schools in mid-September and as always has been well received. Informative articles and stories regarding Junior ROTC, as well as results and general information regarding the drill events produced by SNI are annually featured, including a feature page regarding the "Army Nationals" competition. This magazine, along with the amazingly content-rich DrillNATION.net on-line information, provides a wealth of information to the JROTC community both in and out of the drill world. Please take a look through the site and explore all it has to offer. The site will be expanding in the coming months as more and more details become "fit to print" regarding this exciting Army Nationals competition. Here's wishing all schools the best as you work through another school year. Remember, always do your best! Justin Gates SNI Competition Director
