Scoring Process

All team & individual events are trophied based on raw points earned.

For overall championships, the scoring in use for the Marine Corps Nationals is known as a "Proportional Event Scoring System". In short, scoring in this manner will ensure all facets of the competition receive the exact percentage of points available, while taking into account the level of excellence each school displays in their raw score total compared to their competitors (which other systems do not).

All team events are worth 1,200 points (even Regulation which has a raw total of more than 1200). The school who is the winner of any particular event receives the maximum points available within that event. For example, the school with the highest raw point total earned in Inspection will receive 1,200 points (regardless of the actual points awarded by the judges). The team finishing in 2nd place will receive a percentage of the 1,200 points identical to the percentage they finished behind the first place team. 3rd, 4th, etc. to the final team will all receive points in the same manner.

To see a sample table explaining proportional scoring, see Page 8 in the Competition SOP.
