Academic test is scored 1 point per correct answer. Athletic relay is scored by finished time. Curl-Ups and Push-Ups are scored as 1 point per correct completion. Drill events are scored based on raw points earned.
For overall championships, the scoring in use for Navy Nationals is known as a "Proportional Event Scoring System". In short, scoring in this manner will ensure all facets of the competition receive the exact percentage of points available, while taking into account the level of excellence each school displays in their raw score total compared to their competitors (which other systems do not).
In proportional scoring, the school who is the winner will receive the maximum points available within that event. For example, the winning school in Inspection will receive 1500 points (regardless of the actual points awarded by the judges). The team finishing in 2nd place will receive the percentage of the 1500 points that is identical to the percentage they finished behind the first place team. 3rd, 4th, etc to the final team will all receive points in the same manner.
For Navy Nationals the points are distributed with these maximums. Inspection is worth 1500 points, Academics is worth 1000 points, Athletics is worth 1000 points (Curl Ups & Push Ups each worth 333 points and Relay worth 334 points). And Drill is worth 2500 points (500 each for all five events).
